Global disparity has a whole, has many key factors that help contribute to the vast amount of distress found all over the world. However, classism is what I believe to be the first and most important leading factor to why there is so much inequality around the world. As discussed in class, classism is a classic example of filtering out which nations have more money, then taking a glimpse of how much money is put into that particular countries health care system. Statistics show that the wealthier nations (U.K.; U.S.A) pour more money into their health care programs to try and protect against all the vast amounts of disease found throughout the world. Which that is a great thing for a nation that has the opportunity to thrive in a system that offers a somewhat solid program to at least try and keep its citizens in a healthier and safer state. However, what then happens to those countries (Sub-Saharan Africa; S.E. Asia) that do not have the money needed to help with their health issues. This is an example of where the prevalence of STI’s becomes a huge issue. It is simple to understand: The more money a country has, lower the STI levels are due to the better chance of being exposed to a better health care system of some kind. One the other hand, the less money one country has, the higher STI’s are found within the country due to the major factor of a poor health system, if any health care system. Sadly in this situation and serious topic of STI’s, money talks and statistics prove it.
In the United States, we as American citizens are blessed with the many opportunities of access to health care. However, Americans still need to remember to take the extra precautions to not only stay infection free, but to stop the spread of various STI’s by being educated on what methods are safer than others in one is to engage in sexual activity. I find it very hard to understand how certain individuals will have the mentality of not caring what types of STI/STD’s are out in the world simply because of the mentality of ,” well, its ok, I will get a really good doctor and they will fix me.” That is a very uneducated as well as unintelligent person who thinks in this manner simply because they don’t see the importance of how serious STI’s are, but the as well as how common they are throughout the world.
